Nicole Sitaraman

Clean Energy Advocate and Stakeholder Engagement Strategist

Nicole Sitaraman is a clean energy advocate and stakeholder engagement strategist working to drive equitable investment in clean energy and sustainable infrastructure projects for people of color and underserved communities.  She is a former Senior Manager of Public Policy at Sunrun, Inc., where she spearheaded Sunrun’s engagement in legislative and regulatory policy initiatives in the Mid-Atlantic region.  In this role, she advocated for policies that enable consumer access to solar and battery storage to facilitate a more decentralized energy grid powered by the people, for the people.

Prior to joining Sunrun, Nicole was an Assistant People’s Counsel in the Office of the People’s Counsel for the District of Columbia. She is a proud member of the American Association of Blacks in Energy, NAACP and the Sierra Club. Over the years, she has been elected to leadership roles in various organizations such as prior membership on the Board of Directors of Maryland-DC-Virginia Solar Energy Industries Association, the Steering Committee of Interfaith Power & Light, DMV and Co-Chair of the Solar Energy Industries Association’s Consumer Protection Committee.

Nicole has been honored and recognized for her work by the Aspen Institute, Grist.org, Women in Renewables Industries and Sustainable Energy (WRISE) and We Act for Environmental Justice.  Prior to working in clean energy policy, Nicole was a litigator at commercial law and civil rights firms.  Nicole was the first in her family to graduate from college, earning a B.A. in English from Yale University and a J.D. from Boston University School of Law.
